Win with Words writing competition prizegiving
On Wednesday evening 29 August, Remuera Library held the prize giving ceremony for Remuera Library’s 2018 Win with Words writing competition winners.
The competition is open to all Year 7 and Year 8 students who reside in Remuera or attend school in Remuera. This year we had 11 schools participate with 300 entries. Nine of these schools were represented at the prize giving.
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners and six runner up prize winners for each year group receive generous prizes very kindly sponsored by Shane Pearce, Manager of Westpac Remuera.
During Term 2, the Orakei Local Board sponsor a three hour writing workshop, taken by a children’s author, for a number of students from each local school. This year the workshop was taken by well-known children’s author, Stacy Gregg, who also attended the prize giving and was delighted to read out excerpts of stories written by students who had attended her workshop.
Orakei Local Board also sponsor a special prize for each age group, which this year was for “A story set in your School”.
Remuera Heritage is another supporter of the competition and sponsor a special prize for each age group, which was for a story entitled “Only in New Zealand”.
And of course we had wonderful sponsorship from the Remuera Business Association for the pizzas we serve at the end of the celebration.
We were extremely fortunate to have Rosemary Tisdall, children’s literature specialist, donate her time as the overall judge of our stories again this year.
The prize giving is a wonderful, happy occasion, where all students attending are prize winners and where we celebrate the fantastic, creative writing talents of many students in our local community.
Thank you again to the Remuera Business Association.
